One of my yoga instructors has said that it doesn't take very much movement in our asana practice to begin to change our bodies on a cellular level. I think it is important to remember that, when there is such strong social reward for always striving and always pushing. The invitation today is to find the balance between effort and ease. We don't have to reach the fullest expression of a pose to reap the benefits!

Yesterday I gave you just the gentlest of nudges thinking about how one day we will depart our bodies for whatever lays next for our energy bodies. We have a resistance in our culture about talking about death and what it is that we go through when someone we love dies.
Hey, don't feel bad! For years it was WAY easier to pick a fight with my husband than talk about who would take our animals should we both die.
We can carry grace for our old coping tools while looking to the future to asses how we will pivot.
There is an agony that comes when we are the ones left behind after a death, an actual physical pain that comes with the emotional roller coaster. Then, we have been told that there is a linear way through it (we have all heard it sadness, anger, resistance, acceptance-this was actually regarding the process for those dying not the ones left behind) when really grief is waves in a cycle and there isn't a time when we are just 'better' what we do is we learn to integrate it.
Normalize expressing your grief and loss with us. The container is big enough here that we can help hold what you carry. Lets tend to these wounds together.

It's the last day before our modified schedule for Thanksgiving and I am pondering about the swirl of feelings you all may be experiencing. I know what we are feeling here at Jai is gratitude. It has been a crazy few years bringing the studio through the pandemic and trying to support our clients to the best of our ability.
To have so many in person classes and to be able to connect with our yogis and teachers is such a special delight! Life is such a challenge and I know that it feels so much more manageable with this sangha!

I really love this photo! First my eyes catch the lovey symmetry of the long lines with the wide open side bodies. Then I let my thinking mind in and I immediately labeled the pose, side plank-and reflected on what came up for me when holding the word plank in my mind. A lot of body image came up and what our strong cores are 'supposed' to look like. How the front body of our core has had a value system placed upon it. When really there are 4 sides to our cores just as though we are a tree trunk. Building strength is not for the sole purpose of aesthetic any more than yoga is just asanas. We support our spines, we support our organs, and we keep our tree bodies sturdy with strength!
I invite you to take time as you go about your evening or to pause in your scrolling to reflect on maybe what judgements you have placed on your trunks or maybe what value system you have applied to 'planking'!
Remember yoga is for every-body!

There is another side to this conversation though, I want to talk with you about the potential dialogue you may be having with yourself about "shoulds" or maybe what makes a "good" yogi.
You do not need to be up at 5am to be devoted to your practice nor do you need to flog yourself with the idealized idea of what it means to be a committed yogi. Our goal is to help you find the magic that comes with asana. If that means you need to sleep in until 10 minutes before you need to be out the door that is OK.
