Contradictory to the object of “being rich”, the fourth yama is the practice of 𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 and 𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞.
Through brahmacharya, you choose discipline as a means to become closer to source.
𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: the act of being aware of how much you are taking in; mentally, emotionally, physically.
𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭: through mindful consumption, you understand where and how much to allocate your energy.
𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬: In understanding your consumptions and energy management, you can begin to show up in your relationships with deeper neutrality; through boundaries and noticing your attachments.
𝐒𝐞𝐭 𝐋𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐬: Look at the internal space made when you create a “ceiling” for your external stimuli.
𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐬: Once you have molded room for ease of the mind through discipline, you can begin to sit in the peace you have provided yourself. Finding less friction in letting go of short term stimuli and moving into 𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞.

Third in the line of yamas, 𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐲𝐚.
Many of you are familiar with the act of non-stealing from childhood; to 𝐧𝐨𝐭 take what is 𝐧𝐨𝐭 yours.
How can you reflect on this from a 𝐝𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐫 perspective?
Take for example, 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐠𝐚 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞.
You show up on time, you sit on your mat quietly, you listen to the teacher when they begin. 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞’𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐞.
When you land in space for your sadhana, does your mind cloud with self judgement, self doubt? If you are “doing this well enough” or “performing as you should”? 𝐃𝐨 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐫𝐨𝐛 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞.
Beyond your mat, asteya is more than not physically stealing. It is to abandon the very 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭 or 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐫𝐞 to possess or take anything-whether it is material, relationship, achievement, success, time-that 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 primarily belong to you, through force or deceit or exploitation, by deeds or words or thoughts.
To fully embody this, it is important to look 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 of the want. Does this arise out of greed? A sense of lack? Powerlessness? Out of comparing yourself?
Just be conscious, aware of the body, the mind in space.
Show up for yourself, again and again.

Through this second 𝐲𝐚𝐦𝐚, you see and communicate things as what they are, not as you wish them to be.
It can be difficult to move through life this way, to move past your conditioned mind, your beliefs and past experiences.
Understanding that everyone’s truth will be different. That what you think is true now, may not be true later.
Satya pulls us to stay open to the truth of this 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐦𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭.
Something to consider, is when practicing the 𝐲𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐬, you understand the grand encompassing of them.
While you embody satya, you are also applying the first yama, 𝐚𝐡𝐢𝐦𝐬𝐚; non violence.
When approaching an experience, you look that your words, your actions and thoughts are not harming 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 you run directly into truth.
𝐒𝐚𝐭𝐲𝐚 is the grounding solace of knowing that what is, is simply what is.
You are alive. 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐞.
You create your experience. 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐞.

The moral discipline of non-violence in thought, in word, in action.

𝐉𝐚𝐢 𝐁𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 is a three week, no expectations course to take your first step into yoga. A sweet and lightweight experience, you will break down the basics of postures, props, safe alignment, breath work and general yoga “lingo”.
Under the tender care of @thealiplante , you will explore yoga over three sessions; rising into deeper motivation, trust and confidence that will prepare you beyond the mat.

For existing teachers 𝐚𝐧𝐝 students yearning for deeper knowledge in their personal practice, @thealiplante will be hosting this restorative course in the new year!
Commit to a 15 hour training and leave with a 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞. Integrating deeply nourishing and nervous system regulating poses, effective use of props, explore anatomy and breath work under the tender care of Alex Plante.
There are 𝐧𝐨 prerequisites to this course, meaning 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞 is welcome, teacher or not. We invite you to try something new, melt into your mat and encourage others to do the same.
